Privacy Policy

Last updated: April, 2026

Typory is a macOS font management application developed by Kevin Bishop. This privacy policy explains how Typory handles your data.

Summary

Typory is designed with privacy in mind. All your data stays on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal information.

Data Storage

All application data is stored locally on your Mac in the following locations:

  • Application Support: Font metadata, collections, and settings are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Typory/
  • Vault Fonts: Font files you import are copied to a local vault within the application support directory.
  • Preferences: App settings are stored in standard macOS user defaults.

None of this data is transmitted to any server.

Network Access

Typory connects to the internet solely for the following purpose:

Google Fonts: When you browse or preview Google Fonts, the app connects to the Google Fonts API (fonts.googleapis.com) to retrieve font catalogue data and download font files for preview. These requests are made directly to Google and are subject to Google’s Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy). Typory does not send any personal information with these requests.

No other network connections are made. Typory does not include any analytics, tracking, telemetry, or advertising services.

File Access

Typory accesses files on your Mac only as follows:

  • Vault Folder: The app’s own local vault where imported fonts are stored.
  • Library and Team Folders: If you choose to connect a Library or Team source folder (via the macOS file picker), Typory scans those folders for font files. Access is granted through macOS security-scoped bookmarks, meaning Typory can only access folders you have explicitly selected.
  • System and Adobe Fonts: Typory discovers installed system and Adobe fonts through macOS CoreText APIs. It does not directly read system font directories.

Typory operates within the macOS App Sandbox, which limits file access to only what is described above.

Cloud-Synced Folders

If you select a cloud-synced folder (such as Google Drive, iCloud Drive, or Dropbox) as a Library or Team source, Typory reads font files from that folder on your local filesystem. Typory does not access your cloud storage accounts directly and does not authenticate with any cloud service. Font files that have not been downloaded to your Mac will appear in the app with limited metadata until they are available locally.

Crash Reporting

Typory includes a local crash reporter that saves diagnostic information to your Mac if the app encounters an error. These crash reports are stored locally and are never transmitted automatically. You may choose to share them manually if you contact support.

Third-Party Services

Typory does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. The only external service accessed is the Google Fonts API as described above.

Children’s Privacy

Typory does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, the revised version will be posted with an updated date. Continued use of Typory after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
